Bastiaan Tolhuijs (Biography):

Bastiaan Tolhuijs (1986) is a Dutch designer specialized in upcycling waste.

lost treasures. Now, as a grown man, that fascination with what's being thrown away is still there.
He derives satisfaction from transforming waste into design and wants to prove that the end of a
life cycle of a material often does not have to be the end. His company, Tolhuijs Design, has a
own line of Dutch Design products made from waste. He also advises companies on how to use their
dealing with trash.

TOLHUIJS DESIGN
Tolhuijs Design is a sustainable design agency based in Amsterdam. Our products tell
a story. The story in which sustainable waste and residual materials, and a social and societal
production. We upcycle waste and residual materials into Dutch Design in collaboration with you.
with social workshops and prisons.

UPCYCLING
Our designs do not start at the drawing board, but at the places where waste accumulates. Many
factories throw away high quality waste material on a daily basis. Tolhuijs takes these waste materials as
starting point and transforms them into high-quality, sustainable design objects. The process by which the
value of waste material is increased, called upcycling. Through this process we hope to contribute
to the awareness that waste material deserves a second life.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We work together with our partners: prisons and social workshops in the Netherlands, so that there are
a production chain that is as fair and social as possible.

DESIGN FIRST
The quality and aesthetics of the products are paramount. Our style is characterized by a
Playful or surprising twist with a wink to the origin of, and the type of material or the way of production.

But above all it gives the user the freedom to use it in his own way in an interior.
